Native Instruments Updates Stems Support for TRAKTOR
Native Instruments, the DJ software and hardware manufacturer, yesterday (22nd of February) released a free software update for TRAKTOR users. The free to download TRAKTOR PRO 2.10.1 update extends control of the Stems format to all TRAKTOR users, giving mobile DJs access to Stems even when using a third-party controller.

A recent development in the world of DJing, Stem files give users the ability to interact with a track’s four different musical elements – such as drums, bass, keys and vocals – and each Stem’s volume, filter, and effects settings can be controlled independently to create mixes, mashups, instrumentals and a cappellas. Now, Native Instruments is extending support for Stems with a brand new update that allows Stems to be controlled from within the TRAKTOR software, ideal for mobile DJs who like to get creative with their mixing at home or at events.

The new TRAKTOR PRO 2.10.1 update implements the Stem View directly into TRAKTOR’s Stem Decks, allowing DJs to control Stems with any TRAKTOR setup or even a mapped third-party controller, as well as making the popular TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 officially Stems-ready. Alongside the recently announced update, Native Instruments is also making 65 Stem tracks available for free download, so it’s easier for mobile DJs to become familiar with and start using Stems.

In terms of features, the in-app Stem View (adapted from the hardware display version for TRAKTOR KONTROL S8, S5 and D2) provides users with a clear colour-coded overview of a track’s Stems, giving TRAKTOR DJs in-depth control over the elements of their tracks. Meanwhile, owners of the TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 can now expand their performance possibilities and experience hands-on control of their Stem files. This includes being able to mute and unmute each Stem (using the Remix Slot buttons and pads) and control the volume or filter using the loop encoders. On the other hand, mobile DJs who are curious about Stems but not using TRAKTOR can try out the free, open-format TRAKTOR demo, which includes Stem View.

So far the Stems phenomenon has gathered considerable momentum in the music world and the industry response has been positive: “When I play Stems, my creativity as a DJ goes up through the roof,” were the words of renowned DJ Carl Cox, while radio icon Pete Tong said, “Whether it's remixing a classic on the fly, adding a personal stamp to a new tune, or being able to re-interpret your own music in a live environment, the possibilities are endless. Stems are the next level.”

Currently, 1.5GB worth of free Stems tracks are available from the Native Instruments website (link below), allowing both demo and licensed TRAKTOR software owners to start using Stems right away. The free package includes 65 high-quality Stem files of varying tempos and genres, derived from selected MASCHINE Expansions. Additionally, online retailers such as Beatport, Bleep, Juno and Traxsource are each offering 25% off Stems releases for one week only (until the 29th of February).

The free TRAKTOR PRO 2.10.1 update is now available for download from the NI Service Center.

A free TRAKTOR demo, voucher codes for Stems offers and more information about the update are available on the Native Instruments website (below).
