Pro Mobile’s Mark Walsh Makes Debut as Panto Dame!
That headline may have left you thinking “oh no he didn’t” but we can assure that “oh yes he did!” Pro Mobile sales director and regular contributor Mark Walsh crossed a significant venture off his bucket list this week, after completing a run of successful shows as the dame in a local pantomime.

The production of Aladdin was held at the Playhouse Theatre in Preston, where Mark and his fellow cast members performed a run of eight shows. Fulfilling the role of traditional panto dame, Mark was given the part of Widow Twankey – acting as the comic foil to Aladdin – when he auditioned back in October. A lengthy process which involved rehearsals, dress-making and growing accustom to tights and false eyelashes followed – but Mark took it all in his stride!

“It may sound bonkers but I have always wanted to play a panto dame! I love pantomime but have only ever been involved back stage. The opportunity came up to audition for Aladdin in Preston and rather surprisingly I ended up getting the part,” Mark said. “It has been an incredible journey that has challenged me to the limit – particularly when it came to learning all the lines! I can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable things I have ever done.”

Aladdin ran throughout December, with the final showing taking place earlier this week (Tuesday the 22nd), when Mark’s friends, family and colleagues, as well as fellow DJs and a host of people from across the sound and lighting industry, gathered at the Playhouse to watch him perform.

“There’s never a dull moment with Mark around, and he’s always springing surprises on us, so I wasn’t at all shocked when he announced that he was going to star as a panto dame this Christmas!” explained Eddie Short, Pro Mobile Editor. “As with everything he does, Mark threw himself into the role and was absolutely fantastic. He had the whole team in stitches when we went to see the show and he first stepped out.”

Reactions from other friend and colleagues were equally as positive, with Pro Mobile subscriptions manager Rachel Gray adding: “We all piled into the theatre to see Mark take to the stage in a different outfit each scene, which had us all crying with laughter. The beautiful dresses and colourful fake lashes were impressive, but he wowed the crowd with his singing and hilarious dialogue too!”

After a first panto appearance that can only be described as a resounding success, you may not have seen the last of Dame Mark Walsh just yet! Wait, he’s behind me? It wouldn't be too much of a surprise. Watch this space…
