Regional Winners Announced for Wedding Industry Awards
Last night (25th of November) saw the final regional event of the 2016 Wedding Industry Awards take place, as suppliers – including mobile DJs – gathered at Maunsel House in Taunton to hear the winners for the South West announced. The winning suppliers will now go through to the national finals, attending a stylish award ceremony in January.

Joining everyone from party bands and venues to cake designers and florists as one of the final regional winners, it was Andy Collins who walked away as the Wedding DJ of the Year for the South West. He will now compete with Anthony Winyard (London and South East), Party Events Unlimited (East of England), MisterFox (West Midlands), last year’s national winner Bliss Wedding DJ (East Midlands), WDC Entertainment (North East) and Andy Murphy (North West) at the final ceremony in London.

“Winning the award was truly amazing,” said Andy Collins, winner for the South West region. “I never thought I would win, as this was my first year entering and the standard of talent was very high. I couldn't believe it when my name was called out as the first category of the evening – I'm still suffering from all the champagne! But truly, thank you to all my clients for voting for me and putting their trust in me to provide them with a magical day.”

DJ Andy Murphy was also amazed by the support shown by his customers: “I find a real joy in the fact that brides and grooms have taken the time to vote for me and leave such amazing comments,” he said. “It’s a true pleasure to be a part of the Wedding Industry Awards; the competition gets better with each year and it’s great to see so many wonderful wedding suppliers being recognised for what they do and achieve. This in itself can only help make this awesome industry even better. Hard work really does speak for itself.”

Wedding DJ/MC David Nazaruk (of Bliss Wedding DJ) told us he was “genuinely blown away and humbled” to win a Wedding Industry Award for the second year in a row. “It means so much to all of the team at Bliss Wedding DJ and it’s so fantastic because it is based on feedback from our brides and grooms as well as the TWIA judging panel,” he continued. “We are passionate about what we do and it makes us feel very proud to be appreciated. We are looking forward to helping more brides and grooms in 2016.”

Meanwhile, Anthony Winyard, who couldn’t make it to the award ceremony, said: “I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of support I received after the announcement was made. I was up against some really strong names in the industry, so I honestly didn’t hold too much hope, as the competition was tough! I love what I do and my aim is for every wedding to be fun for the guests and fabulous for the bride and groom, and it is so fulfilling for me to receive recognition from them that I’ve achieved that.”

On the judging panel for this year’s Wedding DJ category is Eddie Short (Pro Mobile Magazine), acclaimed DJ/producer Mark van den Berg (Mighty Fine Entertainment) and wedding DJ Terry Lewis (TWIA national winner for 2014). As well as having assisted in the regional awards, this panel will decide who walks away from the national final as Wedding DJ of the Year.

“It was an honour to once again be asked to sit on the judging panel for the DJ category of the awards,” said Eddie Short, Editor for Pro Mobile. “However, the actual judging process was incredibly tough. The standard of entries was markedly higher than last year, with tough competition in some areas. Choosing one winner in these areas was very difficult as lots of the entrants are clearly excellent DJs who repeatedly surpass their clients’ expectations of what a DJ can bring to a wedding.”

Whatever the outcome, all of the national finalists are determined to walk away as the Wedding DJ of the Year for 2016 – and the competition is fierce. “Earlier this year I set myself a goal to win an award, so I'm really humbled and pleased to have actually won one,” explained Barney Grossman of Party Events Unlimited. “However, it’s not over until I win the national final!”

The Wedding Industry Awards national ceremony will take place on Thursday the 14th of January at the Cafe de Paris in London.
