ADJ Ikon Profile
By James Humphrey.
GOBO projection has long been used by mobile DJs to enhance the atmosphere of venues and as an ‘up-sell’ to increase revenue. Over recent years, as LED technology has improved, a range of fixtures have come to the market allowing GOBO projection with the benefits of low-power consumption, long lamp-life and minimal heat-output offered by this new type of light-source. The ADJ Ikon Profile is the latest of these, which – for a number of reasons – takes LED-powered GOBO projection to another level.

In simple terms, the ADJ Ikon Profile is a compact white-light spotlight fitted with an interchangeable GOBO slot designed for projecting patterns onto the walls, ceiling or floor of a venue. What makes it stand out, is the advanced features it offers for shaping the light output, which have not previously been available on a fixture of this size and at this price-point.

Firstly, the unit offers a variable beam angle, which is adjustable between 15- and 30-degrees, together with manually-adjustable focus. This means that the size of the projected image can be altered according to the distance between the fixture and the projection surface and the size of the space you want to fill with the GOBO pattern. Two knobs located on the top of the unit slide backwards and forwards to allow beam angle and focus alterations. The front one alters the size of the projected image while the back one alters the focus; when you’ve chosen a desired setting, you can then lock them securely into place by tightening thumbscrews integrated into the knobs.

Secondly, the Ikon Profile incorporates a set of four manual framing shutters, one positioned on each side of the fixture. These can be independently slid in or out to change the shape of the projected light beam. This can then be used to illuminate specific venue features, without any overspill of light. For example, a rectangle of light could be projected to light up a venue’s doorway or a square light beam could be used to illuminate a logo at a corporate event. The framing shutters can be used either with or without a GOBO pattern, making the Ikon Profile a flexible light-source for all kinds of uses.
