In past years, there have been eight awards, mainly focusing on equipment, but also honouring some individuals. For this year, we added an additional two discretionary awards, recognising the exceptional achievements of two particular DJs. The shortlists for the first six categories were published in the last issue of the magazine – and online – but the winners were chosen by Pro Mobile readers through an online vote. We had a truly fantastic response to this, with over 1000 DJs contributing their opinion. This means that these awards were presented by Pro Mobile, but on behalf of all of our readers – mobile DJs from across the UK and Ireland.
The ‘DJ’s DJ’ award recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond to help or inspire other DJs. When voting for the other award categories, we asked readers to nominate someone they felt was deserving of the ‘DJ's DJ’ title and also submit a short description of why they felt that particular individual was worthy of the award. The winner was selected based on the number of nominations that an individual received and also the reasons behind the nominations. Based on the numbers of nominations, and also the comments received, we added an Online Presence award, and also an Inspirational Young DJ award.
Finally, the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award is the only one that wasn’t voted for by readers. Since 2013, we have presented one award each year recognising an individual who has made a big impact on the mobile DJ industry and also on Pro Mobile. As usual, the Pro Mobile team selected the winner of this award to acknowledge and thank the winner for their positive impact and dedication to both the industry and the magazine.

A wide variety of DJs were nominated for Pro Mobile DJ's DJ award, with a few names appearing repeatedly – Brian Mole, Carl Douthwaite, George Pizzey aka Ratzi, Mike Stead, Pat Mulligan, Chris Murrell, Harry Meredith, Alan Marshall, Steve Oakley, Clive Houghton, Euan Bass, Marky Buk and Scott Jolly, who all received multiple nominations, but this year, one name stood out with a large number of nominations and also the reasons for these nominations. These included comments like – “always ready to help others”, “goes above and beyond to help fellow DJs”, “an all-round nice person”, “always inspiring us with his set-ups”, “is a fountain of technical knowledge”, “forever helping others and their businesses”, “is always at the end of the phone” and “connected with me after BPM 2019 and introduced me to SEDA”. Congratulations Jack, on winning Pro Mobile DJ's DJ.
The winner of this year’s Pro Mobile Outstanding Contribution award is Alan Marshall. Alan is always available to anyone who asks for help, both through volunteer roles at NADJ, and also at workshops up and down the country, and as far afield as the U.S.A. Alan works tirelessly on perfecting his craft, leaving no stone unturned in his quest for self-development, and the results speak for themselves. As a wedding specialist, he has achieved Regional Wedding DJ of the Year in industry awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020. In 2019, Alan was awarded National Wedding DJ of the year. As a regular contributor to Pro Mobile magazine, Alan also encourages others to share their stories both for articles and our profile features. Congratulations Alan on achieving Outstanding Contribution to the industry award.
Our first of two special additional awards was for online presence. Pat Mulligan, a wedding host and DJ based in Bradford, not only set up an online streaming service, he opened this up to both DJs and live performers, providing an outlet for so many who needed that bit of help to reach out to their audiences. Pat and the team behind Mulligan's Bar continued the service for more than a year, building a huge audience of over 35000 followers who enjoyed a wide range of artists from all corners of the globe. Thank you Mulligan's Bar, for the music!
We awarded the second of two extra special awards to Liam Osler, son of mobile DJ Chris Osler. Liam has been playing on decks since the age of five, and pre-COVID was seen helping out at his dad’s kids’ parties. During the last year, Liam has hosted an online year six school leavers’ disco with the help of Chris, which more than 1,400 pupils logged on to. He also raised funds for his Scout group through hosting an online New Year’s Eve disco, and has a weekly radio slot. His efforts have also resulted in not one, but two Blue Peter Badges. Well done Liam, you are an inspiration to us all!
