Today was the first day of the 2007 Mobile Beat Las Vegas DJ Show and Convention – and it has been a busy one! The first day was all about Seminars, with presentations covering all aspects of mobile DJing from performance to marketing and technology to business networking. The program was action packed, but a very interesting insight into the mobile DJ industry in the US, with plenty of tips and tricks that could be applied in the UK. Although this is my second Mobile Beat show, I was once again impressed by the scale of the seminar room and the quality of the presentations – 800 DJs listening to a host of great speakers with lots of motivating, inspirational and clever ideas!
I am writing this blog entry in my room at the South Point hotel, the home of this year’s Mobile Beat. The time here is 5:20pm, although it is 1:20am in the UK – and despite being over here since Saturday my body clock is still on UK time, so please forgive me if I make any mistakes!
Mobile Beat is not just about business, there is a great social element and tonight Chubby Checker is the headline act for the ‘DJ All-stars Party’. Tomorrow there is another packed seminar program in the morning and then the exhibition hall opens in the afternoon. As we all know, technology is usually made available in America before it makes it over to us in the UK, so hopefully I will be able to check out some of the equipment we can expect to see later in the year.
I must apologise for failing to post a blog entry for a while, my excuse is that I have been very busy getting the next issue of Pro Mobile put together before heading off to Las Vegas. Issue 22 is shaping up to be another great read for all mobile DJs, with the usual mix of articles, features and reviews. Along with a full report on Mobile Beat with plenty of pictures, look out for a new article from regular Pro Mobile contributor Mo Needham and a great article on Wedding Fairs written by a new contributor who has plenty of experience of exhibiting from his day job. We also have a good selection of equipment reviews ranging from the Numark AVM02 DJ video mixer to the new Yamaha Stagepas 500 powered PA system, not to mention a funky vertical smoke machine!
I need to jump in the shower before heading back to the Mobile Beat madness, but I am going to try to add a few more blogs before leaving Vegas, so check back soon . . .
